Gabe Berman's latest is another beautifully and loving look at how each and every one of us can get our head's right during trying times! Although I am not currently going through the pain, suffering or loss of a loved one...I have felt the cold hard sting of it before. We all have or will unfortunately at some point in time. Half of this book is the old familiar voice of a great writer who speaks to us with such simple yet eloquent words. He shares with us the story of his father's illness. But more importantly he shares his love story about the man himself who is so much more than the suffering and how he will live on forever. I am not left with the pain but the beauty of a family's love for their dad. It is Gabe's gift to us with this book!

Over the past several years, it seems whenever I have hit a little rough patch, I find another of Gabe's books. I believe God has dropped his writing in my lap at just the right moment in time. And his writing never fails to be exactly what I need. It speaks to my very soul!

The second half of the book is what I would consider more of a poem! I have never been too wild about poetry but what do you know...Gabe had me hanging on every word! I loved it! It gave me the chills! It ignited a spark within my hurting heart! It choked me up! It made me laugh at the familiar pop culture references contained within! It got my mind racing with beautiful memories of my own! It quite frankly flipped a switch inside me and got my mind in the right place again with perspective!

I have always believed that all paths lead to God. If you have no faith or belief, this book may not change your mind. But I dare you to try. And if you are like most of us and do have a faith and belief in God...but because we are human we lack and fail and get off course at times, this book is a heartwarming reminder to be thankful and live life! I wholeheartedly recommend this one and all of Gabe's reads. Past and future! I look forward to the next!

I will leave you with my favorite quote from this one. "Make your mark on the world. With cool keyboard solos, kindness, or anything else beautiful. Make your mark on the world!" Thanks Gabe! :)

Once I picked this book up, it was impossible to put down. It was the first book I’ve been able to focus on and read from cover to cover in years. It is written in plain and straightforward language that goes straight into your heart and soul as if you might have thought it yourself. This book is very relevant in the here and now. At a time when we are all hungry for words that make us feel something besides fear, Berman’s words help us to stay grounded and calm and remind us that there are many important things outside ourselves.
Berman’s book appeals to a broader audience than the title implies. This book could also just be called, “Where is God?” as the author does a thorough job of looking for God in all of life’s nooks and crannies. And in my opinion, your belief in God could be generically and liberally applied to his writing if your beliefs line up differently than his as Berman does not assign a heavy-duty persona or prescription to God in his tale.
You don’t have to have lost anyone to find a profound message in this story. I found this book to be a deep testament of love for a beloved father, and a window into the grace and the difficulties of the relationships we have with our parents and in saying goodbye to different chapters of our lives. There is still so much beauty and goodness to be found in the world, and Gabe Berman is focused on finding it and sharing it because we are all connected. You will be so glad you read this. I’ve also purchased ‘Live Like a Fruit Fly: The Secret You Already Know,’ another excellent read.

Wow! I reread portions of chapters 26-33 several times to let the information sink-in, and I will continue to do so. It's amazing how often as adults we over-think things and miss the answers that are in front of us.

This book made me see just how often my thinking is my own enemy. My perspectives are too concrete to allow for the possibilities. My thinking is very black and white – which causes me much distress!

I admire people that can accept life on life's terms. I believe they are the people that accept G-d as the author describes Him. These people view things from a glass half-full perspective (or as the author teaches us, everything is a miracle!)

The author discussed the fact that we are only aware of a small percentage of our universe. I remember reading somewhere that we only use 10% of our actual brain capacity. I find that to be a powerful fact. There is so much unknown that we have to accept. I guess that's what they mean by faith.

My favorite teaching that I am going to right down is: G-d does not cease to exist past the perception of our five senses and His is an intelligence beyond our comprehension. I get that. I can wrap my brain around that!

I've oftentimes thought about how I would leave my mark in this world. I have left my mark on many people, this I'm sure of, but I think there is something bigger in me! This book has inspired me to do a personal inventory and for that alone I cannot thank the author enough! I feel motivated!

I also appreciate the fact that this is a “readable” book. I can't read super thick self help books. I enthusiastically begin, and I end up putting them down never to be picked up again. Seriously, I have a stack of them. When troubled, depressed or stressed out about something, focusing can be difficult enough! A thick book, large chapters and small print? Forget about it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 24, 2013
It's not often that you read a book, and you are so moved by it that you are pretty much speechless afterwards. This is how I felt after reading Gabe's new book.

It's a brave thing to do, when you write about something so personal and are honest enough to explain every feeling, both good and bad. We couldn't all do it.

This is Gabe's story and I have to say also a beautiful tribute to his dad, Harold Berman, who you will love to read about. You will be reminded of the precious bond that you personally have with your own dad or special person; and remember to honour that relationship for what it is - something so priceless and endless.

Any dark cloud hanging over you will be lifted; you will feel lighter and you will gain clarity. You will know that life will better. You will learn there are other ways to think of someone who has passed away. You will gain new realisations, which will change your way of thinking. You will be at peace.

Gabe really gives you, the reader a part of himself to help you heal. The dedication in the book is, `dedicated to you.' And it really is every way.
